The Annex is bounded by Dupont Street to the north, Bloor Street to the south, Bathurst Street to the west and Avenue Road to the east. Bordering the University of Toronto, the Annex has long been a student quarter and is also home to some fraternity housing and members of the university's faculty. Over the past decade many older homes have been restored and reinvented as families flock back to the area.
The Annex is mainly residential, with tree-lined one-way streets lined with Victorian and Edwardian homes and mansions, most of them built between 1880 and the early 1900s. The architectural detail is among the finest in the city, ranging from pyramidal roofs and turrets to recessed grand archways and wooden spindled porches. The 1950s and 1960s saw the replacement of some homes and mansions with mid-rise and a handful of high-rise apartment buildings.
Jean Sibelius Park is near the centre of The Annex as well as several parkettes just north of Bloor Street. The park has a playground that was completely redesigned, as an outdoor winter skating rink and summer field. Local schools include Royal St. Georges College (Boys School), Huron Street Elementary School, Jesse Kethcum Junior and Senior Public School, and Paul Penna Jewish Day School to name a few.
Development in the area: Dupont Street, dubbed "the New Dupont" and Davenport Road have seen an influx of development signs and cranes as urban intensification from Davenport to Lansdowne. We can expect projects to continue to be approved in coming years for mid-rise condo and townhome projects along the north corridor of The Annex in the future, along Dupont Street and Davenport Road.

The Annex is one of Toronto's easiest areas to get in or out of – without driving. No less than 4 subway stations take you on either the east-west or north-south subway lines.

The pulsing heart of Toronto was at one point slated to be broken up into pieces by the proposed Spadina freeway, which was cancelled in ‘71 thanks to prominent Annex residents.
